Avegiyel Dunn D.O.
Let me introduce myself. My name is Avegiyel (Hebrew for Abigail, which means my father’s joy) and I go by Avi. I was born and raised in Israel to American parents and grew up in a small farming community in the Galilee. I was an ambitious child and started dreaming of becoming a doctor when I was 13 years old.
My father is a Corpus Christi native and when the time came for me to start my college education, I moved to Corpus Christi and started my journey at Del Mar College. I then completed my Bachelor’s degree at the University of Texas at Austin and after that attended medical school at the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine in Fort Worth. There I met and married my husband, Michael. After medical school, we moved back to Corpus Christi for our residency training at Christus Spohn Memorial. After our training was complete, we practiced in Beeville for eight years and then moved back to Corpus Christi and have been here for several years.
My practice experience has been broad. I spent several years working in a rural private practice as well as taking care of obstetrical patients in the hospital delivering hundreds of babies. It was a wonderfully rewarding experience. When we moved back to Corpus Christi I joined a large healthcare delivery organization that focused on treating Medicare-aged patients. In that position I held leadership roles and learned to manage a large group of medical providers. Also, a very rich experience.
Today, I am on a new journey looking to incorporate all that I have learned through my years of experience and seeking to grow in new domains. I have become convinced that Direct Primary Care is the path to deeper and closer relationships with my patients as well as giving me the autonomy to practice medicine to the best of my ability without being dictated to by large corporations and insurance companies. I also have become deeply interested in Functional Medicine, seeking to discover the root cause of symptoms and disease, and aim to offer that approach to my patients at affordable costs.
Above all, I love God and wish to share the message that Jesus is the source of all healing: body, soul, and spirit. I hope to serve my patients well and invite you to come join the practice.
